Pals
Pals is one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Catalonia — a perfectly preserved stone centre on a hill overlooking green rice fields and the Mediterranean Sea, four kilometres from its own beach and surrounded by three golf courses.
More about Pals
Pals lies on a hill in the heart of the Baix Empordà, around four kilometres from the coast, and is considered one of the best-preserved medieval villages in Catalonia — and indeed all of Spain. The robust stone centre with its towers, vaulted gateways, narrow streets and the Gothic church of Sant Pere breathes an authenticity that is rare on the Costa Brava. The view from the Tower Square (Torre de les Hores) over the green rice fields of the Empordà towards the Mediterranean is simply spectacular. Pals is no museum piece — it is a lively village with good restaurants, galleries and an active local life.
The municipality of Pals also includes the coastal zone with Platja de Pals, a wide sandy beach 4 km from the village. For more extensive daily facilities, Palafrugell (10 min) or La Bisbal d'Empordà (15 min) are close by. Girona Airport is around 40 minutes away, Barcelona an hour and a half. The area around Pals is also a golfer's paradise — with three golf courses within easy reach.
