Begur

Begur sits on a 200-metre hill in the heart of the Costa Brava, and is considered by many to be the most beautiful village in the region. The ruins of its tenth-century castle dominate the skyline and offer a spectacular panorama over the sea, the coastal settlements and the Empordà landscape behind. The historic centre breathes an authentic Catalan character with Indianes houses — properties built by returning emigrants from Cuba and the Americas in the 19th century — giving the village a unique, cosmopolitan feel. Begur has five coastal settlements of its own: Sa Riera, Sa Tuna, Aiguafreda, Aiguablava and Fornells — each with its own character, reachable by bicycle or car and connected to each other via the Camí de Ronda.

Facilities are good for a village of this size. Supermarkets, restaurants, basic medical care, international schools nearby and a lively cultural life. Palafrugell is 10 minutes away, Girona Airport around 40 minutes, Barcelona an hour and a half. Begur is liveable all year round and has a loyal international community of permanent residents alongside seasonal tourists.

Begur is unique in combining a characterful hilltop centre with five coastal settlements within cycling or driving distance — each reachable via the Camí de Ronda.

• Sa Riera — the largest and most accessible coastal settlement, with a wide beach, restaurants and facilities. 3 km from the village.
• Sa Tuna — intimate fishing hamlet with a small beach and authentic character. One of the most photographed spots on the Costa Brava.
• Aiguafreda — small and quiet, with excellent snorkelling in crystal-clear water.
• Aiguablava — the most spectacular bay in Begur, with the iconic Parador hotel on the rocky headland. Turquoise water and lush pine vegetation.
• Fornells — sheltered bay with its own character, popular with sailors and water sports enthusiasts.
• Camí de Ronda — the coastal path connects all five coastal settlements via spectacular rocky coastline.

• Sa Riera / Aiguablava area — villas and properties close to the coastal settlements, with sea views and direct beach access. Most exclusive and highest-priced locations in Begur.
• Dos Calas / Residencial Begur — more accessible urbanisations around the village, with a mix of apartments and villas. Good value for money for the area.
• Mas Pinell / surroundings — greener, more quietly situated villas in the hinterland of Begur. Popular with permanent residents.
