Estepona
Estepona is the authentic alternative to Marbella — a charming flower-filled historic centre, kilometres of beaches and a growing New Golden Mile with luxury new builds. Less glamorous, more liveable, all year round.
More about Estepona
Estepona lies on the western Costa del Sol, between Marbella and Gibraltar, and has undergone an impressive transformation in recent years. The historic centre is one of the most beautiful in the region: cobbled streets, wrought-iron balconies full of flowers, whitewashed facades and charming squares. Estepona has deliberately invested in its appearance and is not without reason called the "Garden of the Costa del Sol". At the same time, the New Golden Mile — the coastal strip towards Marbella — is steadily growing with high-quality new build property.
Facilities are excellent for a town of this size. There are international schools, good medical care, an active cultural life and a wide range of shops and restaurants. Málaga is around 80 km away, Gibraltar 50 km. Estepona is liveable all year round and is attracting an increasing number of permanent residents who want to avoid the bustle of Marbella without sacrificing quality.
Beaches & nature
Estepona has more than 20 kilometres of coastline with predominantly sandy beaches, several of which have been awarded the Blue Flag. Behind the town, the impressive Sierra Bermeja awaits walkers and nature lovers.
- Playa de la Rada — the central town beach, spacious and easily accessible. Ideal for daily use.
- Playa del Cristo — quiet beach close to the harbour, family-friendly.
- New Golden Mile beaches — wide sandy beaches towards Marbella, surrounded by luxury urbanisations.
- Sierra Bermeja — impressive mountain range directly behind the town, with unique flora and hiking routes with sea views.
- Los Reales — the highest point of the Sierra Bermeja, for spectacular views over the Strait of Gibraltar.
Living & neighbourhoods
Estepona offers a broad spectrum — from affordable apartments in the centre to luxury new build villas on the coast.
- Historic centre — authentic Andalusian homes and apartments. Characterful and affordable compared to the coastal zone. Popular with permanent residents.
- Harbour (Puerto Deportivo) — nautical atmosphere, modern apartments and waterfront entertainment. Popular with those who love life on the water.
- New Golden Mile (Costalita / Seghers / Selwo) — the coastal strip towards Marbella with luxury new build complexes, beachfront apartments and villas. Rapidly growing segment with high rental potential.
- Atalaya / Cancelada — quiet coastal zone towards Benahavís with golf and villa urbanisations. Popular with families seeking more space.
- Estepona Golf / El Paraíso — golf urbanisations in the hills with panoramic views. Quiet and green, good value for money.
